Rongali Bihu celebrated in Canada

GUWAHATI, April 18 - The Assamese community of Alberta, Canada celebrated Rongali Bihu on April 13 with traditional fervour, enthusiasm and lots of fanfare in the Scandinavian Community Centre, Calgary, a press release stated. The celebration was attended not only by the members of the Assamese community of Alberta but also by other ethnic Indian communities.

The celebration started in the afternoon with �Meet and Greet� accompanied by serving traditional and sumptuous Assamese jolpan with chira-doi, bora saul and delicious ghila pitha, hutuli pitha, puli pitha, tekeli pitha, narikol laru etc., prepared by various Assamese families.

The celebration curtain-raiser was done by singing both the Canadian and Indian national anthems.

The cultural evening was inaugurated with a chorus based on the famous song Biswar sonde sonde. It was followed by performance of various other cultural items like Assamese modern songs, dances and songs from various other Indian cultures and the traditional Assamese Bihu dance. �Mukoli Bihu� was organized and participated by everyone to end the joyous and absorbing celebrations.
