Rongali Bihu celebrated by Assam Association, Mumbai

GUWAHATI, April 21 - The Assam Association, Mumbai like every year, organised Rongali Bihu on April 16, which was attended by large number of people from all parts of the city, stated a press release.

The highlights of this year�s programme were the performances of Semonia Bihu by Pratiksha Shukla, Lonee Buzarbaruah, Lipee Buzarbaruah, Prisha Dutta and Dr Sheeka Dutta ably choreographed by Ranju Baruah. Another Semonia Bihu by little angels Dhriti Pegu, Tanusha Bhattacharjee, Kristeen Barua, Anadhi Borthakur, Pratyusha Bharadwaj, Sanskrita Bharadwaj, Saichi Baruah and Andrilla Borgohain nicely choreographed by Porinita Newar mesmerised the audience.

Diha naam by Mridul Boruah and his team demonstrated another aspect of rich Assamese culture. The various Bihu forms of different ethnic groups of Assam namely Kachari, Deori, Mising, Bodo, Tiwa besides the mainstream Assamese Bihu was highly appreciated. The dancers namely Ishpriha Bailung, Priya Sharma, Saiba Mojid, Madhinisha Das, Sneha Basera, Abhra Jyotiska Das, Nafsiha Ahmed, Jahnabi Gogoi, Roselin Baruah, Sania Majid, Tushi Gogoi, Bhabna Pegu, Dikshita Das, Antaria Khataniar, Aditi Ghosh and Priyanjana Gogoi deserve special appreciation for their splendid performance. It was nicely choreographed by Dipika Baishya Gogoi, Momina Ahmed, Nira Barua and conceptualised by Dipali Chetri Newar. Bihu dance by Banhikha Baruah and Bhagyalaxmi Rai Choudhury choreographed by Angana Saikia Baruah, solo Bihu dance by Divyani Bora attracted lot of praise from the audience.

Bihu Fusion Dance by Nira Baruah, Malabika Gogoi and Rubi Borgohain; Husori by Pratim Bharadwaj, SP Handique, Prafulla Borgohain, Gautam Bailung, Ranjet Konwar, Purnananda Borgohain, Rajani Borgohain, Naser Ahmed, Mridul Saikia, Hem Lal Newar, Jitul Gogoi, Mridu Pawan Sonowal, Sasanka Boruah, Deepa Tripathi, Rimli Phukon, Porinita Newar and Purabi Johari with traditional instruments fully demonstrated the rich Assamese culture.

Dr Gautam Kalita sang some Bihu songs. The star attraction of the evening was the performance of Bihu song by Debanjana Baishya. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika�s popular song on Brahmaputra Bistirno paarore...� and Bohaagi o xaauni... sung by Surangana Borah, Minakshi Bora, Niva Neogi, Anita Das, Nimisha Phukan Sonowal, Indrani Baishya, Subrata K Das, Ram Baishya, Rajeshri Neogi, Swagata and Prasenjit Borah deserve special appreciation. Anubhuti Kakoty Goswami with her team rendered some famous Bihu and Modern Assamese songs.

The mouthpiece of �The Assam Association, Mumbai, Enajori was released by PK Borthakur, former Director (Offshore) ONGC and Rupanjali Boruah, a social activist. Dr Haladhar Sarma, an eminent scientist at BARC, as the presiding officer of the election process for the office bearers of �The Assam Association, Mumbai� for the term 2017-19 formally announced the name of the new committee members.

The evening ended with �preeti bhoj�. The programme was anchored efficiently by Punam Sharma.
