GOALPARA, Oct 15 � The schedule for summary revision of the photo electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2015 as the qualifying date has been announced. The summary revision commenced today in all the four constituencies i.e., Dudhnoi (ST), Goalpara (East), Goalpara (West) and Jaleswar of the district.
Announcing the schedule in a press conference held on Tuesday at the DC�s office conference hall by the District Election Officer (DEO), who is also the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Preetom Saikia said that copies of the draft rolls will be made available in all EROs offices, with the BLOs, the designated officers of respective polling stations for viewing of general public. Copies will also be given to every political party so that the process of updating of the rolls can be carried out smoothly so as to ensure an error-free voters� list in the district.
The DEO also said that as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the period for filing of claims and objections will be from October 15 to 30, reading of relevant part/section of photo electoral rolls in gram sabha/local bodies and RWA meeting etc., and verification of names will be from to October 17 to 30, while October 19 and November 2 have been set aside as special campaign dates with booth level agents of political parties for receiving claims and objections, the disposal of claims and objections will be settled by November 20, 2014 while the updating the database, merging of photographs, updating the control tables and preparation and printing of supplementary list will be completed by December 20, while the final publication of electoral rolls will be on January 5, 2015.
Moreover, the DEO informed that the entire exercise of summary revision which has been taken up across the country as ordered by the ECI will not be taken up in three States viz., Haryana, Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir where the assembly poll process is either on or will commence shortly. While appealing to mediapersons to give adequate publicity to the entire exercise, he also instructed all the officials involved to make the voters� list error free.
The DEO further held a separate meeting with the leaders and representatives of recognised political parties and enlisted their cooperation for making the entire process error free.
