Role of youths in nation building highlighted

JALUKBARI, Aug 10 - The Directorate of Students� Welfare, Gauhati University and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Chandigarh Regional Centre, are jointly organising a workshop �Youth Ambassadors for Change� at GU. The workshop, which began on August 9 and will conclude on August 13, is being sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India.

Attending the inaugural programme, Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika said the youth can a play a vital role in nation building and such workshops can yield a good outcome for developing the mental faculty of youths.

Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director, Students� Welfare, GU, said the workshop has been designed to understand the role of youths in development, to enhance the skills required to contribute in the overall development of the nation and to create equitable opportunities for youths in the development process.

Avinabh Thakur, trainer from RGNIYD started the session by highlighting some issues prevailing in Assam and explained the role of youths in resolving these issues.

Arup Jyoti Kalita, State Manager, Global Sanitation Fund of India spoke on the role of youths in the nation building process. Only 50 students of Gauhati University PG classes and affiliated colleges were allowed to take part in the workshop on first-come basis.
