GUWAHATI, Aug 1 - The English Programme under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Assam down town University (AdtU) organised a webinar titled �Literature and the uses of adversity� recently, a press release stated.

The main speaker was Dr Gautam Sarma, former head, Dept of English, Cotton University, who is now a professor at AdtU.

The Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, AdtU Dr Chandrakanta Gogoi gave the welcome address. The programme was moderated by Dr Sagarika Mahanta Das, assistant professor of English, AdtU.

Dr Sarma spoke on different genres of literature that reflect the troubled times, and dwelt on how adversity can also cause positive changes and transformation, leading to �catharsis�.
