DOOMDOOMA, March 6 - The Department of Zoology of Digboi College, Nature Conservation Foundation, Mysore, Forest Range Office of Joypure under Dibrugarh Forest Division and Digboi College unit of NSS celebrated World Wildlife Day with special reference to hornbill conservation and other important flora and fauna at Naharhabi Prathamik Vidyalaya, Konwarbam, Joypure, Naharkatia recently.
The programme started with an introduction by Duleswar Tamuli, Forester-I, followed by a speech by Sarat Chandra Neog, Range Officer of Joypure Forest Range under Dibrugarh Forest Division on the occasion. Rajib Rudra Tariang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology of Digboi College delivered a lecture on the topic, �Climate Change and its Impact on Wildlife and Human Population.�
Along with the help of 120 slides, Tariang highlighted the present status of forest cover in the entire globe. He also shed light on the causes which were directly or indirectly related to global warming and how the people are going to suffer if the trend is not checked or even partly reversed in proper time.
Bhaskar Bora, a research associate of Nature Conservation Foundation highlighted on hornbill conservation and showed how the birds help in forest regeneration.
Deep Borah, laboratory bearer of Digboi College and Suraj Sharma, besides NSS student volunteers assisted in organising the programme smoothly along with the Forest Department.
