GUWAHATI, May 4 - The proposal of the State Water Resources Department (WRD) for undertaking an integrated flood and river bank erosion management project at Rohmoria in Dibrugarh district at an estimated cost of Rs 78.48 crore is yet to be cleared by the Union government.
According to information available with this newspaper, the State WRD had on February 29 last submitted to the Union Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) a duly-filled checklist for investment clearance in this respect under flood control, drainage, anti-river erosion and anti-sea erosion projects.
Earlier, the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation on December 17, 2015 had issued guidelines for investment clearance to implement the project.
It needs mention here that the project was accorded techno-economic appraisal and clearance by the Flood Management Directorate of the Central Water Commission. It was accepted by the 124th meeting of the Central Technical Advisory Committee of the MoWR on
October 16, 2014 for techno-economic viability and its detailed project report was sent by the Central Water Commission to the Planning Commission of the Union government for investment clearance.
However, following the replacement of the Planning Commission by the NITI Aayog, approval of the project and placement of fund was perused at the CWC and the MoWR. This was followed by the issuance of the guidelines for investment clearance by the Ministry of Water Resources, etc.
