Robbery attempt averted

MANGALDAI, April 24 - A night patrolling team of the Mangaldai Police Station on Wednesday foiled a well-organised attempt of robbery when it busted a gang of notorious criminals in a luxury car in the heart of Mangaldai town.

Acting on a secret tip-off, a night patrolling team, spotted a deep blue colour Swift Dzire car bearing registration no AS13G-7907 parked suspiciously on a bylane in front of the Office of the Deputy Inspector of Schools Mangaldai with several passengers inside it at around 3.30 am today. On search, the police team led by Officer in Charge of the Town Branch of the Mangaldai Police Station recovered several equipment including a �Khukri� , specially designed iron bars, torch light etc. The gang smelling danger immediately tried to flee but the police team caught hold of five of them, a couple of others managing to escape under the cover of darkness.

Later, during preliminary interrogation, they reportedly confessed before the police that they were about to implement their plans of robbery in the township. Talking to this correspondent, the Superintendent of Police, Amrit Bhuyan said that a serious crime was averted with the arrest of these notorious criminals .

Among the five arrested, two each are from Mangaldai and Dhula PS areas while the other is from Dalgaon PS area. They have been identified as Akbor Ali (28) of No. 2 Baghpuri village, Mangaldai, Bipul Dutta (28) of Mowamari, Mangaldai, Hasmat Ali (24) of Balabari, Dhula, Sadek Ali (23) of Ojagaon, Dhula and Abbash Ali (33) of Besimari, Dalgaon.
