Road, flyover demanded to ease traffic snarls in Dhubri

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, July 8 - Disappointed with the perennial traffic snarls during the peak hours of working days, various organisations have demanded an alternative road and a flyover in Dhubri to overcome the problem.

During working days, people have been facing a plethora of problems while passing the GTB road due to heavy traffic congestions. The road connects schools and colleges for which it has been witneesing a perrenial traffic problem. The GTB road is said to be the lifeline for the people of Dhubri because it acts as an embankment of Dhubri town during high floods. We want a pragmatic step from the authorities concerned, claimed a senior citizen.

On the other hand, the Station Road, which connects the town to the Civil Hospital and many important institutions is often blocked for the railway crossing. Sometimes during office time when this narrow road is blocked for railway crossing, the people have to face severe problems, said Biplob Bhattacharjee, a retired government official. He added that the problem is aggravated day by day in the wake of new vehicles coming in.

In a bid to curb the prolonged traffic problem in these areas of the town, the All Political Parties Coordination Committee has demanded an alternative road to the existing GTB road, from the Folimari Area, which according to the committee will not only reduce the traffic pressure during the peak time, but will also act as an alternative embankment. The committee has also demanded a flyover bridge in the station road area over the railway track to contain the problem.

In this regard, we submitted a memorandum, but in vain. This is a major problem in Dhubri, and, threfore, the State Government should take urgent steps in this regard considering the gravity of the situation, a senior member of the committee said while sharing his experience with this correspondent. He also informed that a permanent solution is a must to solve the problem.
