Road breached by Singra river in NL restored

By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, July 15 - The PWD rural road connecting National Highway 15 to Dolahat Tea Estate, Phulbari and many other places under Lakhimpurs Nowboisa Revenue Circle was completed today, i.e., more than 15 days after it was breached by flash floods of Singra river near Dolahat Tiniali.

The all-important road was breached on June 28 by the swirling waters of Singra river, which then overflowed NH-15 at Raj Ali in Nowboisa and inundated a number of residential areas and agricultural land.

Since then, personnel of the Water Resources Department had worked round the clock to construct a coffer dam to bring the diverted river back to its original course.

However, their efforts were somewhat thwarted by inclement weather during the last couple of days. Finally, with the clearing of the weather, the department by engaging thousands of labourers and heavy machinery suceeded in constructing a coffer dam one metre above the water level of the Singra river.

This paved the way for speedy reconstruction of the breached PWD road on Saturday and its complete restoration today.

It may be mentioned that besides suspension of road communication between Dolahat Tiniali to Phulbari due to the breach of the PWD road, flood waters of Singra river continued to overflow NH-15 at Raj Ali for 15 days till Saturday, thus affecting normal traffic flow.
