RN Ravi takes oath as Nagaland Governor

DIMAPUR, Aug 1 - Newly-appointed Nagaland Governor RN Ravi today said it would be his earnest endeavour to help resolve the Naga political issue by ensuring utmost honour and dignity to the Naga people.

In his first address to the people of Nagaland after assuming office, Ravi called upon them to set the momentum for a resurgent Nagaland so that it becomes a model for other States to follow.

Earlier, Ravi, who took charge as the 19th Governor of the State, was administered the oath of office by the acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Arup Kumar Goswami, at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Kohima. Nagaland Chief Secretary Temjen Toy read out the warrant of appointment.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Assembly Speaker Vikho-o Yhoshu, Leader of Opposition TR Zeliang, other ministers and advisers, MLAs, former Chief Ministers SC Jamir and KL Chishi, Rajya Sabha member KG Kenye and senior Central and State Government officials were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

The new Governor was accorded a guard of honour by the Nagaland Police at the Raj Bhavan courtyard.

Ravi said he was deeply honoured and humbled by the solemn dignity of the office that he has just entered. He reiterated his commitment to his constitutional responsibilities and dedication to selfless service of the people of Nagaland.

Ravi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s �Team India� is all-inclusive where no community, big or small, is left out.

�God introduced me to this beautiful land and people some three decades ago and since then my relationship with you has grown ever deeper and is deeply emotional,� he said.

Ravi said that he would strive to help create an ecosystem of optimum opportunities for the people of the State. He added that he would seek equal partnership of mothers and daughters in this mission, who deserve better attention in terms of health, education and entrepreneurship.

Ravi said emerging technologies like advanced artificial intelligence, quantum computing, advanced data analytics, 5G network, robotics and genetics are the tools of profound change and growth today. �My dream is to see the youth of Nagaland at the vanguard of all these technologies for the good of the people,� he said. The Governor also greeted the Ao community on the occasion of the Tsungremong Festival.
