Rlys confident of completing BG project in time

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, Nov 23 Though there are doubts in the minds of the people regarding the timely completion of the much publicised Lumding-Silchar BG conversion project but, if the present pace of works is maintained, there is every possibility that the project will be completed in time, conscious citizens of Dima Hasao have observed.

TheLumding-Silchar project of the NF Railway will connect the entire southern Assam including Dima Hasao and the neighbouring States like Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur to the main land of the country.

This project started back in 1996 and got the National project status in 2006. From Manderdisa to Dittokcherra, the major portion of the entire project falls in the district of Dima Hasao for which the people of the district sacrificed a lot in terms of environment, agricultural land, proper communication etc.

This time the Railway authority is confident enough to complete the project in time, that is, within March 31, 2015 and the top brass of the Railway including the Chairman of the Railway Board also visited the area and the much-discussed Tunnel No 10 near Jatinga. The Railway officials also hurriedly inaugurated the newly-constructed New Haflong Station in the month of May itself. The pace of the ongoing works in the entire area got momentum following the Mega Block starting from October 1, 2014.

A railway official requesting anonymity said though the railway has overcome several hurdles now, but the stretches near Muolkoi and Rekho were still critical as both BG and East- West corridor go parallel here and the area is landslide prone.

The Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao Barun Bhuyan, while talking to this correspondent expressed his satisfaction over the present pace of the ongoing project and said the railway might complete the BG conversion within its stipulated time.

The people of entire southern Assam including Dima Hasao, and the neighbouring States would surely appreciate the Railway authority for completion of the project at least on target this time.
