GUWAHATI, Nov 12 � Railways struck back after conceding a thin five-run lead to Assam in their Elite Group Ranji Trophy match.
On the third day of the four-day match at Karnail Singh Stadium in Delhi today, in reply to Assam�s first innings total of 187, Railways were all out for 182.
But Assam were soon in trouble losing nine second innings wickets for 160 in 81 overs. Skipper Amol Mazumdar was the lone crusader for Assam with an unbeaten knock of 73. He faced 222 balls and cracked five boundaries. Glovesman Kunal Saikia, who contributed 25 off 35 balls was the only other batsman to reach double figures as all other batsmen fell cheaply when the team needed their service. Amol is battling with Prakash Bhagat (1) at stump.
South paw spinner Murali Karthik mesmerised the Assam batsmen and walked away with five wickets today.
Earlier, Murali contributed 20 to the Railways total, while JP Yadav scored 37. For Assam, Dhiraj Goswami completed a five-wicket haul giving away 53 runs, while Ranji Mali took three for 36. Prakash and Arlen Konwar were the other wicket-takers.
