Rly passengers resort to vandalism

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 31 A section of passengers of the Manas Rhino (New Bongaigaon-Guwahati) passenger train resorted to utter vandalism in the Kamakhya junction today, destroying public property at will.

The passengers grievance was that the train was made to wait for some time at the junction before it could reach the Guwahati railway station.

S Hajong, Chief PRO, NF Railway, told The Assam Tribune that the passengers exhibited total lack of tolerance as they were made to wait for about 15 minutes when the train had to be detained at Kamakhya following some technical snag.

What happened is extremely shocking and needs to be condemned. The train was detained barely for 15 minutes and the same was made known to the passengers through the public announcement system. Nothing warranted such uncivilized behaviour and subsequent destruction of public property on the part of the passengers, Hojai said.

The incident took place around 9-30 in the morning.

The irate passengers destroyed glass panes, furniture, computer sets, and the public announcement system, among other things, while creating mayhem in the junction campus.

An FIR has been lodged with the GRP.
