GUWAHATI, Nov 1 � The 55th Men & 36th Women All India Railway Basketball Championship started today at NFRSA Stadium, Maligaon.

In the championship, 8 women teams and 19 men teams of Indian Railways are in the title race.

While inaugurating the championship, NFR General Manager RS Virdi lauded NFRSA for hosting such a national level event and said that this championship will encourage young players of the region.

In the tournament, there will be many star players of the country like Arjun Singh, Gagan Deep Singh, Suresh Kumar, Pratham Singh, Hanuman Singh, Virendra, Murali Krishna and others. Altogether 60 matches will be played among the teams divided into 4 men groups and 2 women groups.

The championship will be conducted on a league-cum-knock-out basis. The inaugural match was played between host NFR and Eastern Railways and NFR defeated ER 58-47.
