SHILLONG, Nov 24 - There is only respect for Ramakrishna Mission here after the organisation returned to the police two abandoned plastic bags stashed with over Rs 61 lakh in cash consisting of demonetised currency.
The Mission found the bags on November 21 and sought guidance from its headquarters in Belur Math, Kolkata and based on the advice the monks here informed the police on Wednesday to take away the cash.
This gesture of RKM is so laudable. The Mission could have used the cash for their numerous charity works as the cash was donated to them. But they took the right decision and set an example for all others, said a follower of RKM.
Meanwhile, police said the cash has been handed over to the Income Tax department. The IT department confirmed receiving the cash. However, it would be difficult to trace the unknown donor in the absence of any CCTV cameras in the Mission premises.
