Riyan helps Assam reach 165

GUWAHATI, Oct 22 � Riyan Parag Das� 112-ball 59 guided Assam reaching 165 in their first innings in the East Zone U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Jharkhand.

The visiting team scored 56 for the loss of three wickets at the end of the day.

On the opening day of the three-day match at the Barsapara cricket stadium here today, opting to bat first, the host team made a sound start adding 78 runs for the opening wicket partnership. But the middle and lower order batsmen could not take the advantage and wickets started tumbling at regular intervals. Saahil Jain added a valuable 34 off 68 balls but the other batsmen failed to deliver.

Riyan hit eight boundaries in his strokeful knock. Chandan Mukhi was the main strike bowler for Jharkhand who claimed seven wickets giving away just 51 runs.

After a dismal beginning, Shresth Sagar (23 batting) and Shrestha Kumar (18 batting) stemmed the rot and added 39 runs for the unbeaten fourth wicket partnership for Jharkhand. For Assam, Ridip Mohan took all the three wickets for seven.
