Rise in inflow of foreign tourists

NEW DELHI, Aug 10 - With insurgency on the wane in the North-east, inflow of foreign tourists has increased, with the region hosting 1.18 lakh tourists from abroad.

The number of foreign tourists visiting the north-eastern states increased from 66,302 to 84,820 in 2013 and further to 1,18,552 in 2014, said Minister of State for Tourism Dr Mahesh Sharma. An estimated Rs 144.68 crore has been released for the north-eastern region in 2014-15, which is Rs 34.68 crore more than the actual sanctioned amount of Rs 110 crore in 2014-15.
