By CORRESPONDENT

DIMAPUR, April 25 - Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday said his party contested the recent Assembly election on the promise of implementing an elaborate and new development plan and assured the Naga people that every possible effort would be made to bring about change.

He also stated that the Peoples Democratic Alliance Governments top agenda is to play the role of an active facilitator to the ongoing peace process and political negotiations, and contribute towards achievement of an early solution that is honourable and acceptable to the people.

Rio was speaking at the Nagaland VDB and Village Council Conference held at the Nagaland Baptist Church Council Convention Centre in Kohima.

The Chief Minister also called upon the people to create a conducive environment for all-round development of the State. We need development for which the people should bury all differences, he said.

Rio added that the need of the hour for the Naga society is to come together with a spirit of unity and reconciliation.

Our VDBs have been functioning for almost four decades and are regarded as a role model for local self-government and community participation across the country, Rio stated.

He further pointed out that the institution of VDB is a 1,238-strong organisation looking after village development and the strong network comprising 74 blocks has contributed immensely to the development of villages across the State.
