Rijiju reviews aspirational dist prog

IMPHAL, Sept 2 - Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday visited Manipur�s Chandel district and held a meeting to review the Aspirational Districts Programme.

After his arrival from Guwahati by a helicopter around noon, Rijiju, accompanied by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, headed for Chandel, 65 km south of Imphal, in the same helicopter.

On their arrival at Chandel, which is one of the 112 aspirational districts of the country, Rijiju and N Biren planted saplings and inaugurated a one-stop centre at the Integrated Children Development Services Cell at the Deputy Commissioner�s office. They also distributed LPG connections to selected beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

Rijiju and N Biren later reviewed works taken up under the Aspirational Districts Programme in the presence of Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, administrative secretaries, Chandel DC Krishna Kumar and other officials. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Rijiju said Chandel has been selected as an �aspirational district� as it was lagging behind in some development parameters. He said that education, health and communication were the key sectors that need improvement.
