NAGAON, Oct 7 � Assam Rifles lifted the Independence Day Cup outplaying Oil India Limited 4-0 in the final played at the Nurul Amin Stadium here today. Bulu Jidung (37th minute), Akum Aao (65th minute), N Kamei (71st minute) and L Chanta Singh (87th minute) scored one goal each for the winning team.
It was for the fourth time that the Assam Rifles team won the prestigious trophy as earlier they were the champions in 1981, 1988, 2010. OIL were the champions in 1976, 1977,1994, 2004 and 2005.
Mickel Lucky of Green Valley Sports Club was the highest scorer in the meet while OIL striker Manash Manjt Chetia received the best player award.
Minister Rockybul Hussain gave away the prizes in the closing function.
