Rich tributes paid to teacher, artiste Troilokyanath Deka

BARPETA, Oct 14 - Rich tributes were paid to retired teacher, dramatist, director, actor and social worker Troilokyanath Deka on his adyashraddha day at his native Haladhibari village in Barpeta district on Wednesday. The multifaceted personality left for his heavenly abode on October 2, 2020, after a brief illness at his residence at Haladhibari in Barpeta district. He was 75.

A public meeting held on the occasion today afternoon was chaired by retired headmaster of Sarukshetri High School Rupdhan Deka and was addressed by several leading persons of the locality.

Speaking on the occasion, Hargobinda Sarma, retired principal of Sarthebari Higher Secondary School, termed Deka as an institution. His genius was seen in every activity. He was courageous and could face any situation for the wellbeing of the society. He expressed the view that Deka will become immortal due to his deeds and ideology.

Ajit Kumar Das, former principal of Swahid Smriti College Belsor, Chittaranjan Barman, secretary of AGP Barpeta district committee, Abhay Chandra Barman, senior advocate, Kumud Sarma, Chakreswar Deka, Surendranath Barman, Santa Kumar Das, president of the Sarukshetri Block Congress Committee and Gourikanta Goswami dwelt at length about the multifaceted qualities of late Deka. They expressed hope that Deka will be an ideal character for the new generation.

Troilokyanath Deka was associated with almost all the institutions and organisations of the locality and dedicated his life for the development and welfare of the area. An ardent lover of theatre, he did everything for the promotion of this art. He wrote, translated, directed and performed on the stage in several plays. Speakers felt that a void has been created in the eastern part of Barpeta with the demise of Troilokyanath Deka. His punctuality and discipline as a teacher was a matter of envy for his co-workers as well as other colleagues.

Deka was associated with historic Assam Movement and later worked for the organisational development of the Asom Gana Parishad.
