Rich tributes paid to Tarun Gogoi at Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, Dec 12 - A large number of people paid homage to the ashes of late former chief minister Tarun Gogoi here today. The urn containing the ashes of the departed leader was placed at Dolmukh Chariali in front of Khemka Matri Sadan to facilitate the public to pay tributes. Later, his ashes were immersed in the Dikhow river.

Speaking at a condolence meeting here, Tarun Gogoi�s son and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi said his father never did anything that would go against the interests of the State and its people. Paying tribute to the former chief minister, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia said that he knew Tarun Gogoi since 1972 and respected him not just a party leader but also as a fatherly figure who had the magnanimity to treat everyone equally � a man on the street or a big leader.

President of Sivasagar District Congress Sushanta Borgohain said that Gogoi greatly encouraged him when he was a youth Congress leader and guided the party with great sincerity.

Rajya Sabha MP Ranee Narah, in her speech, said that Tarun Gogoi inspired a great urge in her to serve the people through the Congress party.
