Rich tributes paid to Late Sarat Ch Goswami

NALBARI, Dec 22 - Rich tributes were paid to the founder secretary of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, renowned story writer Sarat Chandra Goswami in a function organized by the Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha in association with the Nalbari Sahitya Samaj at Rajendra Chaudhury Bhawan on the occasion of his death anniversary here on Saturday.

The programme began with garlanding of the statue of Late Sarat Chandra Goswami by Kshiroda Bujarbaruah in the morning session. The tributes paying meeting was presided over by Ramanath Baruah, president of the Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha. Speaking in the meeting, Dr Rabin Das who did his thesis on Late Sarat Ch Goswami, said that being an education officer, he tried to reform the State�s education system. He even played a vital role in the establishment of the Gauhati University. Unfortunately, his name does not find mention anywhere at GU, he lamented. �I have been requesting the Asam Sahitya Sabha to erect a statue of Late Goswami at the university campus but to no avail,� he added. He further said that the Jorhat office of the Asam Sahitya Sabha was also founded by him. In story writing late Goswami courageously projected the social issues of those times, Das said.

Dr Biren Deka, former principal of Nirmal Haloi College of Howly delivered a lecture on the topic �Modern education with reference to Late Sarat Ch Goswami�. Dr Deka said that the concept of modern education adopted by Late Goswami was accepted by all and is still relevant.
