Rich tributes paid to Jayanta Hazarika

MANGALDAI, Sept 21 - Rich tributes were paid to eminent artiste Jayanta Hazarika on his 77th birth anniversary at his birthplace here.

A newly-formed musicians forum � Badyajantri Silpi Mancha, Mangaldai � on Sunday observed the day with a variety of socio-cultural programmes, including flag hoisting, plantation and cultural evening at the Jayanta Hazarika Memorial Park obeying COVID-19 protocol. The celebration began in the morning with hoisting of the flag by Ranjan Das, president of the body, followed by ceremonial opening of their office building by singer and photographer Chandra Sekhar (Babul) Roy.

In the evening, Mangaldai MLA Gurujyoti Das inaugurated the stage while Mangaldai Municipal Board executive officer Kamaljit Sarma lit the ceremonial lamp at the photo of Jayanta Hazarika. Dinabandhu Bhuyan, officer in charge of Mangaldai Police Station, also paid tributes.

The cultural evening began with the song, Akou Natun Prabhat Hobo by a group of young artistes. There were many solo performances by several young and senior artistes like Upadhriti Barua, Anwesha Goswami, Shivangi Das, Swati Goswami, Arnoirit Choudhury, Siranjita Bordoloi, Antariksha Kalita, Arkiv Sibam, Himadrita Barua, Dijendra M Deba Sarma and Daisy Sarma among others.

A dance drama Nibir Bone Je Matise Jaa, composed by Jibendra M Deba Sarma and choreographed by Jahnabi Bhargav, the chief instructor of Nupur Cultural Academy, was also presented.
