Rich tributes paid to Bard of Brahmaputra

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 8 - The Kokrajhar district administration in association with Cultural Center, Kokrajhar today celebrated the 91st birth anniversary of music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika at the Basic Training Center here in a befitting manner.

The programme started with lighting a lamp followed by floral tribute at the portrait of music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika by noted writer and social activist Arun Kumar Borgoyari. A cultural programme was also held on the occasion.

It may be mentioned here that on the occasion Bibekananda Choudhury Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar handed over the Chief Minister�s Community Action Award for Development to the renowned social activist Kanteswar Ray on behalf of Kokrajhar district administration in presence of other invited guest and dignitaries.

Bandhuram Basumatary, Principal, DIET, Kokrajhar, Bhaskar Das and Debeswar Bora, Additional Deputy Commissioner�s of Kokrajhar, Premchand Jha, social worker among others also attended the programme.

Kaziranga: The birth anniversary of Late Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed here in a befitting manner at many educational institutions.

In Kaziranga National Park High School, the students and teaching staff paid floral tributes followed by Dr Hazarika�s poem recitation and songs which was sung by the children. Similarly, at Rising Sun English School, Kohora, the birth anniversary of Late Dr Hazarika was observed by the school children. The chairman of the school construction committee Paritush Bhattacharya and the working president of the school managing committee Ashim Dutta led the function by lighting the earthen lamps. This was followed by floral tributes paid by the students.

At Sankar Dev Shishu Niketan, students paid tribute to Dr Hazarika and recalled his great contribution to the Assamese society and the world. The school children of the institute also sang songs composed by Dr Hazarika.

MANGALDAI: A full-size bust of legendary artiste Dr Bhupen Hazarika has been unveiled here today as a part of the celebration of his 91st birth anniversary. The bust made of bronze and brass metal with a height of around ten feet has been ceremonially unveiled by Gurujyoti Das, MLA, Mangladai at the new Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Park along the Bega river.

According to the organiser the bust cost several lakhs of rupees and the major portion of the expenditure was bored by Kulen Hazarika of Dalgaon, an established businessman.

In this connection a public meeting was held at the venue which was attended by several prominent persons including Deputy Commissioner, Darrang Ashok Kr Barman, noted playwright Hemanta Dutta, litterateures Idris Ali, Phulendra Nath Saharia among others.

On the other hand Darrang Zilla Sahitya Sabha also celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr Hazarika with a daylong programme at Jhargaon High School premises in association with the Bishnujyoti branch Sahitya Sabha. The daylong celebration featured many events including flag hoisting, singing contest among the students, cultural function and open session among others. Eminent writer Niropama Borgohaiyee addressed the open session as the chief guest while it was inaugurated by Jongsar Khungur Basumatary, principal of Dimakuchi College. Earlier, Mukut Hazarika, secretary of Darrang Zilla Sahitya Sabha explained the objectives of the meeting chaired by its president Sahir Bhuya.

DOOMDOOMA: Rich tributes were paid to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika at his birth place Sadiya and at Doomdooma on his 91st birthday today.

At Sadiya, a programme was organised at Rukmini Udyan of Chapakhowa by Sadiya Satphool Sanskritik Sangha. Floral tributes were paid at the statue of Sudhakantha situated at the park. On the other hand Bhupen Hazarika Sanskritik Mancha in collaboration with Satmile LP & ME School organised a programme at the statue of Dr Bhupen Hazarika situated at Satmile of Sadiya.

A special programme was organised by Doomdooma Asomiya Puja and Natya Mandir Samity at the Natya Mandir premises where several persons recalled the memory of Sudhakantha. Several artistes performed the immortal songs of Bhupenda. An open quiz on Sudhakantha�s life and work was also held.

At Learners� High School situated at Rupai Siding tributes were paid to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his birthday today. In presence of the students and teachers of the school, the headmaster lit an earthen lamp and garlanded the portrait of Sudhakantha. He also delivered a speech highlighting various aspects of Bhupenda�s life and work. Three students presented three songs of the musical icon in the programme. The programme was anchored by Pawan Sharma, an assistant teacher of the school.
