RI to former president of Darrang ZP

MANGALDAI, Nov 22 - The court of the District and Sessions Judge, Darrang, Gautam Baruah on Monday sentenced Tafajul Haque (62), a former president of Darrang Zilla Parishad (2011-12) and a resident of ward no. 2, Mangaldai and one of his cousin brothers to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for kidnapping and murder of two persons of Baghpori village, Mangaldai in the wee hours of June 22, 2008. The court sentenced an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment on both in default of paying the fine.

The Sessions Court had registered a case with no. 122 (DM) 2010 under Section 364 IPC in this connection. The prime accused Tafajul Haque who has been seriously ill for the last couple of years after a cardiac arrest was taken to the court in an ambulance and produced on a wheel chair. However, three other accused in the case have been acquitted by the court for lack of necessary evidence.
