RHJMC-supported Independents bag 33 out of 36 seats in RHAC polls

GUWAHATI, Jan 28 - Independents backed by the Rabha Hasong Joint Movement Committee (RHJMC) swept the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council polls, bagging 33 seats out of the 36 seats. The BJP, AGP and the Congress got one seat each.

Our Goalpara Correspondent reports: Independent candidates backed by RHJMC won the maximum number of seats in the council areas under the Goalpara district in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections, the results of which were declared today.

Out of the 20 RHAC constituencies in the district, RHJMC-backed candidates won 18 seats whereas one seat went each to the BJP and to the INC respectively. The AGP drew a blank. The elections to the RHAC took place on January 21 last, where over 65% voter turnout was recorded.

The counting for the 20 constituencies in the district began at around 8.30 am today and all the results were declared by 1.30 pm. According to the official reports, following are the RHAC constituency-wise results.

Mallika Banikya (RHJMC backed) won in Dhupdhara, Maijani Rabha of INC in Kothakuthi, Phanindra Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Dhanubhanga, Sahadev Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Rongjuli, Hitesh Rabha Patigiri (RHJMC backed) in Kuchdhowa-Daranggiri, Tapas Kummar Dey (RHJMC backed) in North Dudhnoi, Tankeswar Rabha (RHJMC backed) in South Dudhnoi, Divanitha Marak (RHJMC backed) in Bandarshi, Prabodh Kalita (RHJMC backed) in Majakhilli and Alaka Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Salpara.

Tarun Chandra Rabha (RHJMC backed) won in Habraghat, Charu Mohan Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Dirmajakhili, Karneswar Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Pub Ajagar, Deban Monmin (RHJMC backed) in Jinari, Suchitra Nath (BJP) in Agia, Harish Ch Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Dwarka, Ashok Kr Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Bardamal Kalyanpur, Jonali Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Dariduri, Jyotika Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Dodan and Madhuram Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Joyramkuchi constituency.

Talking to this correspondent, a cross-section of the people and polling officials said that they appreciated the way the polls were conducted and thanked the district administration for the smooth conduct of the polls and the arrangements during the vote-counting process.

ANN Service adds from Mirza: In the RHAC areas under Kamrup district, Panchami Rabha ( RHJMC backed) won in Jarihat, Kalparam Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Bondapara, Nagarmal Swingiery (RHJMC backed) in Khaliha, Frailend R Marak (RHJMC backed) in Luki, Sonaram Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Hahim, Arjun Chetry (RHJMC backed) in Jongakhuli, Sumit Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Boko, Aditya Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Uttar Bongaon, Minoti Boro (RHJMC backed) in Dakshin Bongaon, Kamaleswari Doloi in Bamunigaon and Udhab Rabha (RHJMC backed) won in Gobordhan.

Ramakanta Rabha (RHJMC backed) won in Pantan, Dilip Chandra Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Kulsi, Nripen Chandra Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Chandubi, Rashmi Bala Rabha (RHJMC backed) in Silpota, Sanjay Kumar Rabha (RHJMC backed) won from Rani.
