Rhinos, Crows, Hawks Baby League champs

GUWAHATI, June 2 - GTC Rhinos, Sarusajai Hawks and NFRSA Crows clinched the titles of their respective categories of Greater Guwahati Baby League (GGBL) which ended today at Nehru Stadium here.

After 84 teams and more than 900 kids competed in the six months long league, organized by Guwahati City FC (GCFC) and Sportscraft Management. In the finals of the U-11, U-13 and U-14 categories respectively Sarusajai Hawks defeated GYSFCC Dragons 2-0, GTC Rhinos defeated Ringchang Eagles 1-0 and NFRSA Crows defeated BMYC Thunders 2-0.

GTC Rhinos and GYSFCC Dragons have already clinched the U-7 and U-9 categories titles respectively.

Twenty teams fought for the title in U-11 category in two groups. In U-13 category 33 teams competed in three categories which was the highest in the league supported by Assam Football Association, Decathlon, Champions Food Court and Egua. Eighteen teams participated in U-14 category.

Along with Guwahati, teams from Morigaon, Nagaon and neighbouring State Meghalaya also took part in the league.

Ishan Saikia (64 goals), Ivan Ranjan Kalita (33 goals), Saksham Deka (25 goals), Monjyoti Tamuli (19 goals) and Rohan Manar (10 goals) were awarded with top scorer trophies in U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13 and U-14 categories respectively. Pritish Ranjan Boro of AG Leopards (U-13 category) was adjudged as the best goalkeeper with 15 clean sheets. Masum Ahmed of Ringchang Eagles was awarded with best playmaker trophy. A total of 82 players were awarded with �stars of baby league� badges. GGBL also witnessed rise of some young coaches and 10 young coaches were awarded with �Emerging Coach� trophies. Most disciplined team award went to AG Leopards.

Dharma Kanta Mili, Director, Sports and Youth Welfare was the chief guest in the closing function.
