RG�s bust unveiled in LNIPE campus

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - Union Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Sarbananda Sonowal appealed to the young generation to be inspired by the activities of Singha Purush Radha Govinda Baruah in building a healthy society and a prosperous nation.

Sonowal was speaking after unveiling the bust of RG Baruah in the Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), North East Regional Centre, Tepesia, near here today. The Minister also inaugurated the administrative building of the institution on the occasion of its sixth foundation day. He also paid floral tributes to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of the fourth death anniversary of the great singer.

Sonowal said, by installing the bust of RG Baruah in the LNIPE complex, the organisation has paid great respect to the builder of modern Assam. He said students from all over the country will now know who was RG Baruah and his contribution to the nation. Recalling RG�s contribution, Sonowal said his activities send a strong message towards the young generation how his farsightedness helped in building modern Assam.

He further revealed that the NE region is full of sporting talents and they have to be provided with the required facilities so that they can excel in their respective events. Sonowal disclosed that an archery academy will be started in the LNIPE next year.

The Vice Chancellor of LNIPE Dilip Dureha said from next year onwards several new courses will be introduced in this centre.

The Dean of the institution, Biswajit Basumatary, while welcoming the gathering said, since inception, this institution has produced several brilliant students, including a topper �Renu Kumari � last year. He also mentioned that next year post- graduate classes along with Sports Science courses will be introduced in the institution.

MP Bijoya Chakraborty appealed to the students from all over the country to be successful physical educationists and help the nation in producing good sportspersons and human beings.

RG Baruah�s family member Tridip Sarma, journalist Premadhar Sharma, sports organisers Balendra Mohan Chakrovorty, Jayanta Boro, Aftab Hussain, international shuttler Madhurjya Baruah, SAI Deputy Director Subhash Basumatary, Doordarshan official Rupen Bora were also present on the occasion.
