RG Baruah�s 120th birth anniversary observed

GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - The 120th birth anniversary of �Singhapurush� Radha Govinda Baruah, one of the architects of modern Assam and founder of the Assam Tribune Group, was observed on Saturday. Adhering to COVID-19 protocol, the RG Baruah Smriti Rakhya Committee organised a low-key event in front of the statue of RG Baruah located at Dighalipukhuri here.

In the programme, committee general secretary Bhuban Lahkar and assistant general secretaries Nilamani Sarma and Ashim Kumar Deka and others paid floral tributes to the visionary. Speaking on the occasion, Lahkar recalled the contributions of RG Baruah to the Assamese society in diverse spheres such as sports, culture and media. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also paid tributes to the �Singhapurush� on his birth anniversary. �A pioneering personality, Radha Govinda Baruah�s imprints in the development sphere of our state are invaluable. Humble tributes to the �Architect of Modern Assam� on his birth anniversary,� Sonowal tweeted.

At the Assam Tribune building premises, the Assam Tribune Sports Club (ATSC) organised a programme to observe the day. Attending the event, Assam Tribune Employees� Union (ATEU) president Shiva Prasad Deka lit the earthen lamp and general secretary Jiten Kalita spoke about life and works of RG Baruah. Everyone present in the programme paid floral tributes to the founder of the organisation. The programme was hosted by ATSC general secretary Bhaskar Das. In the evening, earthen lamps were lit on the Assam Tribune campus.
