RG Baruah drama fest begins

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 - The 12th Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah Full-Length Drama Festival got under way at Rabindra Bhawan here today. The 5-day festival organised by Jyotirupa, was inaugurated by former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr�Paramananda Rajbongshi.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajbongshi lauded the initiative of Jyotirupa to promote quality theatre and keep alive the tradition for posterity. He also recalled the contributions of one of the architects of modern Assam Radha Govinda Baruah and said that this multifaceted personality could visualise the needs of a modern state.

Chinnamul, a play by Sorsa from Sipajhar, was the inaugural play of the festival.

MD NRL, SK Baruah, secretary-general of�Asam Sahitya Sabha Jadav Sarma, general secretary of Jyotirupa Nayan Hazarika, and actor�Dilip Hazarika among others were present at the event. Vice president of Jyotirupa Roman Sarma anchored the event.
