Revoke PRC to outsiders: AAPSU

By The Assam Tribune

ITANAGAR, Sept 8 The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today demanded immediate revocation of the State Governments order to issue Permanent Residential Certificates (PRCs) to non-Arunachalies residing in Lohit and Changlang districts.

Terming the decision as arbitrary the AAPSU President Takam Tatung said in a statement that the June-24 order amounted to betrayal of the people.

By taking such a decision without consulting the people and prior discussion in the Assembly, the government is intending to hurt the sentiments of the people, he said.

According to the order, PRC may be issued to non-APST (Arunachal Pradesh State Tribal) people and their families who have settled in Lohit and Changlang districts prior to 1968 and in respect of whom proper records are available with the administration.

It has been made clear that the issuance of such PRC shall not entitle the non-APST to claim for APST status and they will not be entitled to claim any benefit or reservations meant for APST. PTI
