By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, June 3 - The Opposition Naga Peoples Front (NPF) today demanded that the Nagaland Cabinet immediately revoke its decision to send returnees from other States, to their home districts before their COVID-19 test results are out. It also called for a revision of the standard operating procedure in this regard.

In a meeting held at the residence of Opposition leader TR Zeliang here, the party MLAs and officials said the decision of the State Government to send some returnees to Tuensang was a disastrous step. Condemning the decision, the party said the overall handling of the matter by the Government was very unfortunate. Five returnees from Chennai tested positive after they were sent to Tuensang.

Meanwhile, the NPF hailed Health Department workers, village councils, church bodies, community-based organisations and other frontline workers for the persistent fight against COVID-19.

The party reassured the people of Nagaland that it would protect the interests of the citizens in the fight against the pandemic. It also demanded that the State Government provide seeds to farmers who have not been able to take to cultivation due to the lockdown. Small and marginal businessmen and entrepreneurs must be provided an economic stimulus for recovery, it added.
