By Correspondent

GOALPARA, June 18 - A Revenue Department employee was among three persons arrested today by Goalpara police on charges of forgery and land grabbing.

The arrested include a husband-and-wife duo, who were staying in the plot of land for several years as caretakers.

The matter came to the fore when Upendranath Roy, the owner of the plot, applied for a loan against the plot and during verification it was revealed that the land in question had already been registered in the name of one Mahesh Choudhury and his wife Nanda Barman Choudhury the caretakers of the plot of land measuring two kothas in the Cha Bagan revenue village.

Following this, a case was registered by Roy with the Goalpara police.

Bishnu Kalita, a kanungo of the Lakhipur Revenue Circle, had allegedly registered the property in the name of the Choudhurys by preparing fake documents.

Kailashpati Rajbanshi, the lat mandal of Matia circle who allegedly colluded with the trio, and Subhendu Sarma, who bought the said property, have also been booked but they are trying to evade arrest, police said.

Superintendent of Police Nitul Gogoi, however, asserted that those on the run will also be brought to book soon.
