Revenue deficit grant released to 14 states

NEW DELHI, May 12 - The Centre on Tuesday released over Rs 6,195 crore to 14 states as the second equated monthly instalment of the post devolution revenue deficit grant. Assam was allotted Rs 631 crore.

Office of the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a tweet said the amount will provide the states additional resources during the COVID-19 crisis.

Recommended by the 15th Finance Commission, the grant has been released to Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.

The amount released included over Rs 1, 276 crore to Kerala, Rs 952 crore to Himachal Pradesh, Rs 638 crore to Punjab, over Rs 631 crore to Assam, around Rs 418 crore to West Bengal and Rs 423 crore to Uttarakhand, official sources said.

The latest revenue deficit grant comes nearly three months after the first such grant that had been issued to the states earlier. �An equal first instalment of the grant, as recommended by the 15th Finance Commission, was issued by the Centre to the states on March 14,� sources added.
