Reunion meet of Kamrup Academy begins

By

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 The two-day reunion meet of former students of Kamrup Academy, the 83-year-old higher secondary school, got under way today with a programmed titled Udjivita Tulika by eminent artist Neel Pawan Baruah and Benu Mishra both former students of the school.

Stressing the need for improving the vernacular-medium schools, especially the government-run ones, which have been on a downward slide of late, Baruah said that the reunion should be the starting point of a much-needed renaissance for the States educational spheres.

Tomorrows programmes include a naam-prasanga (synchronizing with Mahapurush Madhabdev Tithi), followed by flag-hoisting, smriti tarpan, swahid tarpan, plantation, collection of signatures of former teachers and students, etc.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also a former student of the school, will later launch a website of the reunion event.

The convention will feature a nostalgic interaction between students and teachers, besides a felicitation programme for teachers.
