Retired DDG, Civil Aviation Dinen Lahon passes away

DOOMDOOMA, Oct 12 - Dinen Lahon, a retired Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation , Government of India and a son of Doomdooma breathed his last at Narayana Hospital, Bengaluru around 2 am today following a cardiac arrest. He was 67.

Born in Raidang Tea Estate here, Lahon received his primary education at the garden primary school. He passed his matriculation examination from Hoonlal Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma. After graduating from Tinsukia College with honours in physics, he joined Madras University and completed B Tech in Aeronautical Engineering. Then he also obtained a degree in Industrial Management.

He began his career as a scientist in Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), Govt. of India. Later, he also served in National Aerospace Limited and Hindustan Aeronautical Limited in various capacities. While working in Hindustan Aeronautical Limited, Lahon completed his M Tech in Space Engineering from BITS, Pilani. He also visited several foreign countries to get acquainted with advanced space and aeronautical technology.

He retired as the Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Department, Government of India in 2012 and settled in Bengaluru. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

His death cast a pall of gloom in his birthplace Doomdooma. The alumni association of Hoonlal Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma condoled his death. Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha and several other organisations of Doomdooma also mourned his death.
