Results of GU PGSU election announced

GUWAHATI, Oct 15 - Manab Jyoti Kalita and Pinak Kaushik Bora have been elected as the president and the general secretary of the Post-Graduate Students� Union (PGSU) of the Gauhati University. The results of the PGSU poll were announced this evening.

While Manab Jyoti was backed by Satra Mukti Sangram Samity (SMSS), Pinak was an independent candidate.

Kaushik Jyoti Nath of NSUI was elected as the vice president of the PGSU.

Nabanita Saikia (NSUI), Nirupam Koch (AASU) and Bidyut Jyoti Kalita (NSUI) were elected as assistant general secretary, cultural secretary and debate and symposium secretary respectively.

Altogether four candidates backed by the NSUI, three ABVP-backed candidates, and two candidates with affiliation to both AASU and SMSS (two each) made it to the union body.

Three candidates, including Ajanta Devi (music secretary), Parmeswar Basumatary (gymnasium secretary) and Phakhon Brahma (major games secretary) were elected uncontested.

In total, 15 candidates have been elected to the different offices of the PGSU.
