Restrictions imposed on renting out accommodations

GUWAHATI, Oct 16 - Apprehending subversive activities by militants, prohibitory orders have been clamped in the entire Central Police district of Kamrup Metro.

The order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) came into effect yesterday and will be in force for 60 days.

The order stated, �Terrorist or antisocial elements may seek hideouts in the residential area of the police district and there is likelihood of grave danger to human life and safety�.

To prevent such incidents, the police have barred all landlords and property owners of the area from renting out or subletting accommodation to any person until and unless the particulars of the tenant is furnished to the officer-in-charge of the police station concerned.

�It is necessary that some checks should be put on landlords or tenants so that terrorist or antisocial elements in the guise of tenants may not cause explosion, riot, shootout, affray etc, and that immediate action is necessary for the prevention of such activities,� the order stated.

The persons doing property business shall also inform in writing the OC of police station concerned, under whose jurisdiction the premises fall, about the particulars of the tenants, it stated adding any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 IPC.
