HAFLONG, Nov 18 - Along with the rest of the country, National Press Day was organised by the District Information and Public Relations Office here in collaboration with the Sub Division Information and Public Relations Office on Saturday.
A meeting on the occasion was organised to discuss the theme: �Reporting � Interpretation: A journey�.
Welcoming all the participants and the mediapersons, DIPRO Purabi Phonglo presented an insight on the background note after which the topic was discussed by all the journalists present.
ADIPR Shekar Ingti presented a special address during the meeting and urged the mediapersons to stress on factual reporting. Each mediaperson present was felicitated with a phulam gamusa.
As a part of the cultural programme, Dipanjali Sharma presented beautiful songs and enthralled the audience. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks delivered by SDIPRO Punima Hakmaosa.
Our Kalaigaon Correspondent adds: The civil administration at Bhergaon observed National Press Day at the sub-divisional headquarter in Udalguri district with a day-long programme.
The programme was observed at the Conference Hall of the Office of the SDO (Civil), Bhergaon at 11 am. Kushal Kalita, Assistant Commissioner of Bhergaon inaugurated the programme on behalf of the civil administration.
Several mediapersons were felicitated on the occasion by the administration. Gokul Chandra Brahma, ADC of Udalguri-cum-Civil SDO i/c of Bhergaon presided over the session. Journalist Jayanta Das attended the session as the chief guest.
Several speakers, namely Tankeswar Barua, president of Kalaigaon Press Club, journalist Kamal Deka of Khoirabari, Bhaben Deka, Headmaster of Bhergaon Ucha Bidyalaya and social worker Pulin Talukdar spoke on the occasion and highlighted the activities of journalists during the pre-Independence period.
The speakers mentioned social roles played by noted journalists of Assam, namely Ambikagiri Roychoudhuri, Deba Kanta Barooah, Haren Barua etc. They urged the media houses to sympathetically consider the minimum wages to journalists as suggested by various wage boards from time to time. They also requested the media personnel to play a positive role in the society with their original thoughts.
In his concluding speech, ADC Brahma requested the members of the media to help bridge the chasm which still remains between the people and the administration. He also urged the media personnel to study the myriad problems of the society very deeply before hurriedly publishing sensitive news.
Our Dergaon Correspondent adds: National Press Day was observed in Golaghat under the aegis of the district administration in association with the District Information and Public Relations Department with a day-long programme on Saturday.
The programme, held at the Conference Hall of Golaghat Circuit House was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dhiren Hazarika and moderated by Assistant Commissioner-cum-DIPRO incharge Papu Gogoi.
Floral tributes were paid in memory of the journalists who passed away.
In the open meeting, Gogoi explained the objective of the meeting while senior journalist Apurba Kumar Baruah delivered his speech as the appointed speaker.
He highlighted the different aspects of news presentation with special reference to present-day needs. Gogoi also explained the significance of National Press Day with a power point presentation.
As a part of the itinerary, eight veteran personalities in the field of journalism and social work, namely Apurba Kumar Baruah, Dwipen Dutta, Prakhyat Dowerah, Mahendranath Hazarika, Makhanlal Barhoi, Tulsi Prasad Dutta, Dugdho Dutta and Upen Dutta were accorded warm felicitation for their outstanding contributions.
The programme which was attended by several senior journalists along with other officials ended with a vote of thanks by the DIPRO.
Our Barpeta Correspondent adds: National Press Day was observed here on Saturday with a day-long programme.
The Barpeta district administration in collaboration with the Barpeta Press Club and District Information and Public Relations Office observed the day with various programmes.
The function began with a cleanliness drive by the mediapersons in the morning. The Barpeta Press Club insignia was hoisted by Manoj Kumar Das, president incharge of the club. A painting competition among schoolchildren was also organised.
A symposium-cum-felicitation programme was inaugurated by veteran journalist, academician and former president of Barpeta District Sahitya Sabha Akshyay Kumar Mishra by lighting an earthen lamp.
Speaking on the theme of National Press Day, i.e., �Reporting interpretation � a journey,� Mishra said that the scope of journalism today has extended manifold. The veteran journalist also warned against unhealthy competition among the media houses to broadcast breaking and sensational news.
Senior journalist of the district, Narayan Goswami was felicitated on the occasion. Responding to the warm felicitation, Goswami said that a true journalist must be impartial in character and has to meet everybody, irrespective of political, religious or linguistic affiliation and personal relationship.
He urged the young journalists to be judicious in the use of words and objective while writing news.
Navakanta Kalita, president of Patacharkuchi Press Club, Haramohan Barman, president of Sarukshetri Mahkuma Sambadik Sanstha, Mahananda Pathak, former secretary of Barpeta Press Club and several others also spoke on the occasion.
Several journalists of the district were felicitated by Deputy Commissioner Munindra Sarma. District Infirmation and Public Relations Officer Bikash Sarma conducted the entire proceedings.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Munindra Sarma lauded the role of the journalists in guiding society and the administration. He urged them to be vigilant, reflect seriously on the will of the people through their works, be constructive in criticism and point out the faults of the government so that those can be rectified to the satisfaction of the masses.
He also presented an account of some developmental activities which were completed recently, while shedding light on some ongoing works, besides some proposed schemes pertaining to the district.
