KOHIMA, May 24 - Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang today asserted that the top most priority of the State government will be to continue and facilitate the ongoing dialogue between the Centre and the Naga political groups for peaceful resolution to the decades-old Naga political issue.
This is the main motivating factor that has united all the 60 legislators to form an opposition-less government, as well as formed the Nagaland Legislators Forum (NLF) on Naga Political Issue, by sinking all our differences of the past, Zeliang said. He was addressing a programme on completion of two-years of DAN government.
He said the Parliamentary Working Committee of NLF under the chairmanship of the Speaker had visited Delhi last year and this year and has met most of the important political leaders of the country, to brief them about the Naga issue, and seek their support as and when the matter is brought to Parliament and other appropriate fora.
We have also met various Naga political groups for exchange of views and ideas on how to achieve Naga unity, and work together for the common Naga cause, he said.
The Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 can be said to be the indirect outcome of all the efforts, he said.
He said the Framework Agreement signed between the Centre and NSCN(IM) is like a preamble that sets out the tone for final resolution to protracted Naga political problem through peaceful means.
Zeliang said the Naga civil societies and various religious organisations have also been moving together with one vision for early solution to the issue.
Our achievements during the last two years have been quite laudable in agriculture and allied sectors, such as horticulture and animal husbandry. However, we have to admit that much more remains to be done, Zeliang said.
To set out the State governments vision and target till 2023, it will bring out a Vision Document for Nagaland in line with the Vision 2020 for North East Region and the Act East Policy, the Chief Minister said.
The Vision Document will inform people how we will go about to achieve self-sufficiency in foodgrain and vegetables, horticulture, meat, eggs and milk, he said.
Zeliang said other priorities of the government will be to exploit the States mineral resources, besides improving roads, power, water supply, healthcare, education and employment generation by bringing in private investment.
The Chief Minister said that efforts will be made to bring out the Naga customary law to protect the Nagas from possible demographic assimilation in the long run. PTI
