Residents rue lack of conservancy services

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 6 The people of South Sarania have expressed their resentment over the Guwahati Municipal Corporations lackadaisical attitude in cleaning the locality and changing dustbins in the area.

According to the residents, some areas of the locality are still untouched by the Corporations conservancy services, where garbage is piled up on the roadside due to lack of adequate dustbins.

Even the existing dustbins are not cleared frequently, resulting in overflow of garbage from the dustbins. Ironically, at one location the dustbin is placed close to the electricity transformer, where the land is always wet and muddy due to filth. This can lead to a disaster any day, a locale of the area said.

The people of the area also mentioned that despite their repeated complaints, the garbage collectors do not come regularly to their locality.

Often the authorities blame the citizens for throwing garbage openly on the streets. But if adequate dustbins are not installed and door-to-door municipal waste collection is also not regular, the common people would keep on throwing garbage as per their convenience, Amrit Deka, a businessman of the area said.
