NILAMBAZAR, Dec 6 - The Karimganj district administration has finalised the seat reservation for the three-tier panchayat election to be held in 2018. In this connection, an all-party meeting was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner under the chairmanship of Pradeep Kumar Talukdar DC Karimganj recently. As per the decision of the meeting, out of 20 zilla parishad constituencies, 10 constituencies have been reserved for female candidates. Gandhai-Brahmansashan and Sarisha-Bazarghat seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste. The constituencies which are reserved for female candidates are Bhairabnagar, Ashimganj, Luairpua, Maizgram, Sutarkandi, Nilambazar, Baroigram, Kankalash, Duttapur and Kaliganj.
Meanwhile, out of the seven Anchalik Panchayat president seats Dullavcherra, South Karimganj and North Karimganj have been reserved for women including scheduled caste female.
Besides, out of the 96 Gaon Panchayats, 53 have been reserved for female candidates.
It is to be mentioned that earlier the Congress and the AIUDF had raised objections against the population census data 2011 and they had demanded to recheck the SC population through- out the district.
