Resentment over demolition of Lenins statue

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, March 6 - The CPI (M) Cachar and Hailakandi district committees have expressed strong resentments over the developments which took place in Tripura after the statue of Lenin was uprooted in Agartala on Monday.

Condemning the incident as a shameful act in the history of the nation, Samiran Acharjee, former secretary and veteran leader of the party on Tuesday said, People behind the heinous incident are influenced by the philosophy of the RSS. Lenin is an international leader and respected across the globe, mere demolition of his statue will not deter the spirit among the followers of his ideals. Those who can destroy the Babri Masjid are torch bearers of fascism, he said.

Meanwhile, cadres of the SUCI (Communist) also took out a protest rally condemning the incident. The cadres said that such cruel acts are manifestation of fascist mentality and, hence, need to be checked and perpetrators punished.

Meanwhile, the Cachar and Hailakandi district committees of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions have strongly condemned the destruction of the statue. In a release issued to the media, Suprio Bhattacharjee, general secretary of the union said, We condemn the attacks on the lives and properties of opposition political party workers and demand immediate measures from the government and the administration to assure the people that democracy will be safeguarded.
