Resentment over assault on physically-handicapped teacher

DHEMAJI, April 6 - Resentment prevails at Bordalani in Dhemaji over an act of beating a physically-handicapped teacher here by a police personnel yesterday afternoon.

As alleged, following the order of Dhemaji district administration, Moni Saikia, the headmaster of Bordalani Tiniali Lower Primary School, who is physically-challenged, went to a grocery shop at Bordalani Tiniali to purchase some foodgrains for distribution of MDM (Mid-Day-Meal) among parents of students of the school. On seeing him, sub-inspector of Bordalani Outpost Satrasing Tharo, who was allegedly in an inebriated condition, came to the teacher and without asking him any question severely beat him up.

The people of Bordalani area have expressed strong resentment over the assault of such an aged teacher who had to go to the grocery shop to buy some food items for distribution of MDM to the pupils of the school following the order of DEEO (District Elementary Education Officer), Dhemaji.

Several organisations of Bordalani area including Bordalani Pensioners� Union, Bodalani Kendriya Yuba Mancha, Bordalani Citizens� Association, Dhemaji District Primary Teachers� Sanmilani and Dhemaji Press Club have severely condemned such an unjust act of the police sub-inspector and urged the higher district authorities to take action against the police officer.
