GUWAHATI, March 3 The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam has resented the agreement arrived at by the Consultative Committee of the Planters Association and the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha in February this year to hike the wages of tea plantation workers by just Rs 43.
The student body submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today, expressing its dissatisfaction over the agreement and insisted that the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, be implemented, the daily wages of tea workers be increased to Rs 330, Sundays and other holidays be declared paid holidays and tea plantation workers be classified as semi-skilled workers.
If our demands are not fulfilled in a week, we will go for an indefinite agitation, warned the student body.
