Republic Day Riverbank Cleanup, Celebration Today

GUWAHATI, Jan 25: The Midway Journey, a citizens’ initiative led by youths, is organising a Republic Day riverbank cleanup cum celebration with Pampearth, Yours Thriftfully, Northeast Waste Collective, North East Underground Movement, Irshaad and Alfaaz on the Uzanbazar riverbank tomorrow.

More than 70 people are expected to attend the cleanup drive and around 20 artistes will perform in the cultural programme to be held on the occasion. People from various social and environmental organisations will join the event.

The youth group has been carrying out the drive on the Uzanbazar riverbank every Sunday for the last two years.

The cleanup drive will start at 9 am and participants will also be trained on waste segregation, composting and recycling.

The cleanup drive will be followed by games and quiz. Poets, rap musicians, street folk artistes, mime groups and acoustic bands will participate in the cultural programme.

Arshel Akhter, Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati; Rashmi Choudhury, founder of Street Animal Welfare Guwahati and poet Madhu Raghavendra will be present as guests of the event.
