Republic Day celebrated all over State

GUWAHATI, Jan 27 - Along with the rest of the nation, the 70th Republic Day was also celebrated all over Assam with patriotic fervour.

DHEMAJI: The Dhemaji district administration celebrated the 70th Republic Day with massive public participation.

Deputy Commissioner in-charge SK Das unfurling the National Tricolour at the Dhemaji Court Field.

On the occasion, the district administration felicitated two senior journalists Dr (retired Professor) Govin Medok and Umesh Chetiya (literary pensioner). Besides, eminent personalities and freedom fighters were also felicitated.

At Jonai, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Nisarge Hivare hoisted the National Flag at Gandhi Maidan and also took the guard of honour.

NAGAON: The Nagaon district administration celebrated the 70th Republic Day centrally at Nagaon�s Nurul Amin Stadium. The State Labour and Employment Minister (Independent) Pallab Lochan Das hoisted the National Flag and took the guard of honour. District police personnel, other paramilitary forces, NCC, Scouts and Guides and students of various schools and colleges of the district took part in the march past.

The minister first paid floral tributes on the statue of the veteran musical maestro of the State as well as Bharat Ratna, Dr Bhupen Hazarika. In the function, 15 dignitaries from various fields of the district like renowned artist and lyricist Janya Bezboruah, senior journalist Rajen Borkotoki and others were felicitated by the district administration.

RANGIYA: Republic Day was celebrated with joy and fervour at Rangiya HS playground amidst a big gathering. The National Flag was hoisted by chief guest on the occasion and SDO (civil) Munindra Bordoloi. In his speech, Bordoloi recalled the names and works of all Indian freedom fighters and martyrs including from Assam.

A colourful march past show was displayed by the troupes of Assam Police Battalions, NCC, Scouts and Guides, schools and colleges of Rangiya. On the occasion, freedom fighter Krishna Kanta Lahkar and achievers in sports, agriculture and other fields were felicitated. A variety of patriotic cultural items were showcased by students from various schools of the locality later. Fruits and other items were distributed among the students of Harijan school of ward no. 5 by the administration.

GAURIPUR: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated at Golokganj with ferver and gaiety. Hundreds of jubilant members of the public assembled in the playground of Jagamohan Vidyapith to participate in the historic Day of the country.

Satrishna Gharfalia, the Circle Officer of Golokganj circle hoisted the National Flag and swahid tarpan was performed by a number of dignitaries present. The Circle Officer took the salute of the paramilitary forces, police, NCC and Scouts and Guides.

Various competitions among the school children and women of the locality were also organised. Fruits were distributed among the patients in the Golokganj PHC. An attractive cultural evening was also arranged where local and invited singers took part. The Republic Day was also celebrated at Gauripur and at Agomani. Jhimli Dutta, chairperson of Gauripur Town Committee hoisted the National Flag at the historic Mahamaya playground amidst a large number of people of the town. Some NGOs distributed chocolates among the people of the locality.

North Lakhimpur: From Hawajan to Gogamukh, from Zengrai-Kekuri to Kakoi-Rajgarh, Lakhimpur district was upbeat on the occasion of 70th Republic Day of the country for the announcement of two prestigious honours to two of its sons. The Government of India announced the conferring of Padma Shri to noted innovator Uddhab Bharali of North Lakhimpur and the Assam Science Society announced the Prasanna Goswami Award-2018 to bio-tech scientist Dr Pankaj Bharali from Dhakuakhana, making the entire district extremely proud to celebrate the very day with great enthusiasm.

The official function of the Republic Day was held in the playground of North Lakhimpur Govt. HS School playground where the National Flag was unfurled by Naba Kumar Doley, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat, Cultural Affairs and Sports and Youth Affairs. He took the salute of the parade and inspected the guard of honour. Padma Shri awardee Uddhab Bharali was the guest of honour at the R-Day function in North Lakhimpur. Freedom fighters, veteran sports person Haladhar Duwarah and various personalities from different fields were felicitated on that occasion by Lakhimpur district administration. Tableaux of various state departments like rural development and schemes like DDU-GKY, PMAY were displayed during the parade of the Republic Day function in North Lakhimpur. The R-Day function was also attended by Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Jeevan B and Superintendent of Police Harekrishna Nath.

Various organisations also extended different programmes on the occasion of Republic Day at North Lakhimpur. The Lakhimpur Mahila Unnayan Samiti distributed light food and refreshment among the patients of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital.

KOKRAJHAR: The 70th Republic Day was also observed here at Kokrajhar, with a daylong colourful programme.

The Chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary unfurled the Tricolour at the Govt HS & MP School playground amidst a huge gathering.

He also took the guard of honour and distributed rewards and citations of honour to the beneficiaries and those for outstanding performances in various fields.

On the other hand NTPC Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project (Salakati), Kokrajhar also celebrated the 70th Republic Day of India in a grand and befitting manner.

Mushalpur: The official programme of the 60th Republic Day celebration in Baksa district was centrally organised at Bathoupuri Stadium near Mushalpur where Bhaskar Pegu � the newly-appointed DC of Baksa district hoisted the Tricolour and also inspected the guard of honour. In his official address to the gathering after the flag hoisting ceremony, the DC threw light on the completed as well as the undergoing development schemes under the Central, State and BTC Government. A multi-lingual cultural programme marked the occasion where freedom fighters, senior citizens, ideal farmers and persons from various fields were honoured for their distinctive contributions. MLAs Thaneswar Basumatary and Maneswar Brahma, EM of BTC Ansumwi Khungur Boro, MCLA Ghanashyam Das, SP of Baksa Thube Prateek Vijaykumar and a host of distinguished guests graced the programme. The tableaux of District Handloom and Textile Department, District Fishery Department and District Agriculture Department were adjudged the first, second and third prizes respectively. Republic Day was also celebrated in all the Government offices, hospitals, academic as well as social institutions.

TINSUKIA: The 70th Republic Day of the nation was celebrated with gaiety and patriotic fervour at Tinsukia. The Tricolour was unfurled by the Minister of Social Welfare, Government of Assam, Pramila Rani Brahma who also inspected the guard of honour and took the salute of the march past by the contingents of Police, NCC and schoolchildren at the parade ground, at the ITI Field at Boroguri here. The minister in her speech on the occasion stated that the present State government led by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was making all efforts for the overall development of the State. Earlier, the Minister paid tributes to the martyrs of the Independence struggle of the country and garlanded the statue of the Father of the Nation. On the occasion, schoolchildren and other NGOs performed various cultural programmes. The Minister also distributed prizes to the meritorious students and other distinguished sportspersons of the district.

The function was attended by the Deputy Commissioner, Oinam Sarankumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Siladitya Chetia and other officers and distinguished guests.

Dhubri: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm throughout Dhubri district.

The Tricolour was hoisted in all the educational institutions, government and non-government offices and also in various lanes and bylanes of the entire district, to mark the occasion.

Centrally the National Flag was hoisted by the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri Anant Lal Gyani at the Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah Playground, in the presence of various dignitaries from across the district. After hoisting the flag, Gyani also informed the gathering of the various achievements of the district in the last one year. He also gave a brief description of various ongoing schemes of the district and what the administration aims at achieving in the next few months. The demonstration of arms and ammunition by the Red Horn Division of Dongra Forces and the miniature structure of various historical places in and around the district by artist Rajni Kanta Deka was the main attraction of the central programme, where different State departments demonstrated tableaus.

The Border Security Force observed the Republic Day in the border areas of the district along with the local villagers.

Various cultural programmes were also organised on this occasion.

BOKAKHAT: With the rest of the countr y the 70th Republic Day was celebrated centrally at Bokakhat stadium field with pomp and grandeur. The SDO (Civil) of Bokakhat Bibek Shyam unfurled the Tricolour.

He inspected the march past exhibited by the police, scouts, NCC cadets. Earlier, he also offered glowing tribute to music maestro Dr.Bhupen Hazarika. Some persons were publicly honoured for their dedicated social works

Bongaigaon: State Revenue Minister Bhabesh Kalita unfurled the Tricolour at the Republic Day programme at the Gandhi Maidan here and presented the development works done by his government. Kalita said that his government is committed to protect the rights of the indigenous communities of the State. He also said that his government took the initiative to grant tribal status to the six communities of the State.

SILCHAR: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated across Barak Valley on Saturday amidst patriotic fervour.

In Cachar district, the central celebration was held at the Police Parade ground wherein the Minister of Forest Excise and Fisheries, Parimal Suklabaidya hoisted the Tricolour and inspected the guard of honour in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri, SP in-charge Rakesh Reddy, distinguished personalities and commoners.

In his address to the people of the district, Suklabaidya reiterated the commitment of the Government both at the Centre and the State towards ushering in development across the country with special emphasis of infrastructure facelift to North East. The Minister underscored the importance on the efforts taken by the Government to get the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 passed in the Parliament and also said that the complete and correct draft of the NRC was published on the basis of evidential documents.

Moreover, Suklabaidya mentioned that besides the much-awaited Mini Secretariat and a Planetarium here, Rs 10 crore would be utilised to transform the historic Bhuvan Hills into a picturesque tourist spot in south Assam. Later, the Minister felicitated a veteran women freedom fighter and sought her blessings as well.

Sweets and fruits were distributed to the inmates of Central Jail and also at the government hospitals. Government offices and statues of important personalities were garlanded and illuminated as a part of the celebration.

The occasion was also celebrated at the Masimpur Campus where Dr KC Mahali, IG, BSF hoisted the National Flag. The 07 battalion of the BSF organised Border Retreat Ceremony along the Indo-Bangla international border at the ICP Sutarkandi in Karimganj district. Karimganj MP Radhe Shyam Biswas, North Karimganj MLA Kamalakshya Dey Purakayastha, Deputy Commissioner PB Roy attended the ceremony. Sweets and gifts were exchanged between the BSF and its Bangladesh counterpart BGB.

DOOMDOOMA: The Republic Day programme started with garlanding of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi situated at the heart of the tea town by retired teacher and social activist Giridhar Nanda.

In the main function held at Doomdooma Town Field, the Chairman of Doomdooma Municipal Board Dulu Arandhara offered floral tributes to the martyrs of the Freedom Movement of the country. The Circle Officer of Doomdooma Revenue Circle Pankaj Nagbonshi hoisted the Tricolour and addressed the gathering. Doomdooma MLA Durga Bhumij also spoke.

On the other hand , the subdivisional administration of Sadiya celebrated Republic Day at Chapakhowa public playground where SDO (Civil) unfurled the National Flag. He also took the salute of the march-past presented by contingents of Assam Police, NCC, Scouts and Guides and school students. A colourful cultural programme was also held on the occasion.

Lions Club of Doomdooma Tea City felicitated renowned academician and Brand Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Dr Sashikanta Saikia, sports organiser Lalit Gogoi and social activist Jamini Barman. Children of the local schools presented a few cultural items.

Republic Day was also observed at Doomdooma Press Club (DPC) where DPC president Arjun Baruah hoisted the Tricolour while the secretary of the club Manoj Dutta offered swahid tarpan.

The local schools of Doomdooma circle also observed the day. At Modern Academy of Rupai Siding, Principal Prabhat Bikomiya Deori hoisted the National Flag in the presence of the students and teachers of the school.

KALAIGAON: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated at Kalaigaon and subdivisional HQ Bhergaon with gaiety.

At Kalaigaon, Biraj Kumar Barua, Circle Officer of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle hoisted the Tricolour at Gandhi Bakori before taking salute of the march-past contingents before a gathering of thousands of people.

On the occasion, Circle Officer Baruah offered tribute to the martys who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Mother India. He mentioned about the contribution of local freedom fighters, namely late Pani Ram Das (suffered three years rigorous imprisonment under the British rulers), late Bongshidhar Sarma (suffered six months rigorous imprisonment under the imperialists), late Dinanath Sarma, late Mahat Chandra Deka and late Kamaleswar Sarma for sacrificing their prime youth at the alter of freedom for India.

Bhergaon: At subdivisional HQ Bhergaon,DN Hazarika,ADC,Udalguri cum SDO (Civil) incharge hoisted the Tricolour at Mahakumadhipati Bakori in the presence of nearly 5,000 people.

The subdivisional administration felicitated eight persons, namely Himashree Baishya, Ishan Barua and Sambaru Baro (national-level child scientists), Mithu Baro (culture), Prafulla Boro (sports organiser), Dr Anil Kumar Deka, SDMO, Bhergaon, Health and Family Welfare, Nijora Boro,(national bronze medal winner in Thai boxing) and Bineswar Baglari (model farmer). Auxilium Convent School won the first prize in march-past.
