BADARPUR, March 6 � In protest against the killing of an youth of the minority community at Dimapur in Nagaland by some miscreants, tremendous repercussion was seen at Badarpur and several other minority-dominated areas of Karimganj district this morning.
Thousands of minority people and organisations also staged hours-long road blockades and protest rallies and public meetings amid slogan shouting. Protests were also held at Bhanga, Chargola, Asimganj, Ratabari and several other places.
Karimganj district high police officials rushed to the incident spots and brought the situation under control.
The protesters submitted a memorendum to the Karimganj SP in Badarpur Police Station, addressed to Deputy Commissioner, whereby it demanded all possible steps to bring the body of the youth Sariful Khan.
Moreover, adequate compensation was also demanded from the State government for the bereaved family.
Sariful Khan was a resident of Bhanga of Badarpur. A 12-hour Barak bandh was also called on Sunday in protest against the killing.
Official sources said that the Karimganj district administration is monitoring the situation closely and security has been steped up in the entire district to ensure no untoward incident takes place.
